Islamabad- Ex-Pakistan’s higher-ranking military general is said to have been killed in Afghanistan.
Lt General (r) Shahid Aziz who had also served as the Director General Military Operations (DGMO) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman – has been killed in Afghanistan fighting against the Afghan forces. The news of his death is reported by numerous local newspapers inside Pakistan.
Although the Shahid Aziz’s son rejected the report that stated that his father had been killed fighting alongside Taliban in Afghanistan.
According to Pakistan today’s report “Lt General (r) Shahid Aziz wanted to compensate for what he had done in favor of the US troops, and therefore, he was in Afghanistan wherein he was killed”.
The report further states that “former army chief General (r) Pervez Musharraf said that Shahid Aziz had grown a beard and gone to Syria, and according to some people, he had been killed there.”
Shahid Aziz has remained one of Pakistan’s top military general who had served in Pakistan’s military for 37 years and had remained the Director General of Military Operation, the chief of general staff and Lahore corps commander.
The killing of Pakistan’s higher army general in Afghanistan strengthens Afghan government stance that Pakistan’s military has been supporting and sponsoring the Afghan Taliban. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani repeatedly stated that Pakistan has launched an undeclared war against Afghanistan.
