U.S. and Russia Hold Ceasefire Talks in Saudi Arabia Over Ukraine Conflict

Riyadh–U.S. diplomats are pressing forward with ceasefire negotiations in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, scheduling a meeting with Ukrainian officials in Riyadh today after engaging with Russian representatives.
According to Al Jazeera, Monday’s discussions in the Saudi capital focused on stopping attacks on Black Sea shipping routes, a key move toward potentially restoring a grain export agreement sidelined since mid-2023.
The talks follow a promising U.S.-Ukraine session on Sunday, described by a State Department source as “positive,” fueling hopes of de-escalating a war now stretching into its third year with massive human and economic tolls.
Hosted by Saudi Arabia, the negotiations aim to lay groundwork for a broader truce, with both sides reportedly exploring terms to pause hostilities along contested frontlines.
The outcome remains uncertain, but progress in Riyadh could signal a turning point in one of the globe’s most disruptive conflicts.
