Afghan origin becomes first Geneva MP

An Afghan origin Javed Sangdel, became Switzerland’s Geneva City MP after representing the Freedom and Social Justice Party in the city’s parliamentary elections.

The elections which was held on April 2, 2023, Javed Sangdel could win the fourth place among the 690 candidates from the addresses of 13 political parties.

In Geneva city’s parliament history, Sangdel has said to be the first Muslim, Afghan and Asian origin who is elected as a member of the parliament.

The Parliament of Geneva has 100 seats for a 5-year term. The swearing-in ceremony would be held on April 28, 2023.
