If confirmed, this will be a big blow to the anti-Taliban movements.
Kabul— Afghanistan’s Freedom Front military leader, Akmal Amir, was reportedly killed along with his deputy, Basir Andrabi, during a clash with the Taliban in the mountains between Salang and Shatel.
The district governor of Ahmedabad, Paktia, Hamid Khorasani, confirmed that Akmal Amiri, his deputy, Basir Andrabi, and six others were killed in the altercation with the Taliban in the Shatel area.
Afghanistan’s Freedom Front (AFM) has not confirmed the death of Akmal Amiri but reported that he and his men were engaged with the Taliban in the Salang mountains until 2 am on Tuesday. However, the group contact with them has been lost since then.
The Taliban Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of Akmal Amiri, furthering that no group or people will be allowed to disrupt security and peace in the country.
Afghanistan’s Freedom Front claims that the Taliban sustained casualties during the clash, and the bodies and wounded have been transferred to Parwan Hospital.
Akmal Amiri, a former special forces commander, had joined the resistance front in Panjshir after the collapse of the former Afghan government but later went to Iran after the fall of Panjshir. Some sources suggest that the Taliban had identified him and targeted him.
