According to a source close to the Taliban, Salahuddin Rabbani, the de-facto leader of Jamiat Islami party and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, has reportedly engaged in indirect talks with the Taliban.
However, this news has not been independently verified by both Taliban and Rabbani.
Meanwhile, a journalist Tajuden Soroush also tweeted, that the first round of talks was facilitated by Afghan Ambassador to Turkey, Amir Ramin, with Jawed Bahadori, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Taliban, and Massoud Soltani, a current employee of the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry. “They delivered a message from Amir Khan Mottaghi to Mr. Rabbani during the meeting,” he added.
It’s believed that Mr. Rabbani has had contacts with some Taliban leaders for a year and a half. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the Taliban have not taken any action against Nur TV, which is affiliated with Jamiat Islami Party.
Born on 10 May 1971, Rabbani was an Afghan diplomat and politician who was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan from February 2015 to October 2019.
Salahuddin’s father was former Afghan High Peace Council chairman and Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani. His father was assassinated by a suicide bomber entering his home in 2011.
